Research has shown, that the most successful innovation teams, similar to the most successful startups, are composed of people with highly diverse backgrounds and a highly homogeneous set of cognitive abilities.
Business background selection is rather wide than deep. If an innovation team would consist of 10 engineers the team would have an engineering background but ten of the same. If the innovation team ten is highly diverse, it would be people from engineering, marketing, sales, finance, production, logistics, administration, managerial, technical research, and maybe an analyst.
Once the team is composed and began to work with each other, they will rate each other’s cognitive abilities. Rate somebody down is not an act of dismissal, but in the interest to make sure they have the best composition to build a groundbreaking innovation.
